MIG-21 serves as an Interceptor aircraft in the IAF, is a supersonic
jetfighter and interceptor aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet
Union. It was popularly nicknamed "balalaika", from the aircraft's planform-view resemblance to the
Russian stringed musical instrument or ołówek in English pencil by Polish pilots due to the shape of
its fuselage. It was also nicknamed "Én bạc" in english ˜Silver swallows' by North Vietnamese, now
Vietnam People's Air Force pilots and Vietnamese people. IN 1964 became the first supersonic
fighter jet to enter service with the IAF, played a limited role in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965.
